I often use the search in a forum with such special theme like here to find a solution for a problem. In most cases the result is what I want, but unfortunately in this forum ("SMF") it is sometimes a little bit hard to find the right result because of the default search assigned to the search field in the upper right corner.
Here are some tips to find what you want:
- the default to the search field in the upper right corner is "search the subforum where I'm actually in". This means: If you want to search the whole forum and not only this little part, go to the main overview first (here "FacileForum > ..." link.
- the search field has a default of "most relevant first". This means, you will not get the newest posts first but the posts where the forum software "thinks" this is the best match for your search. In most cases people only searches for one word and then this default makes no sense. So if you want to get good results with the quick search, use more than one word to search for and use double quotes to search for specific texts written in the same way like in Google. Means <"search this"> would give you other results than <search this> (without the brackets). The second one would search for any of these two words, the first one only for exactly this text (without upper/lowercase).
- to get a more specific search you must click on the magnifier near the quick search field, this opens the "Advanced Search" which lets you specify the search criteria more exactly. This includes the possibility to set the search result to "most recent first" so you don't get the sometimes very old results of the standard quick search which are often older than 2006 and posts about former versions of FF. Moreover you can set a frame of days to search. 9999 days are about 27 years back...
- here is a link to the original search documentation of the forum programmer himself: http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=23.0;sort=subject
Maybe this helps a little bit to really find what you want - and to search first, because most questions you could have are already discussed in this forum...

Cheers,
Christian
